  7.  The number of validation templates has expanded greatly and there have
  8.  been a few other changes to RACE.CFG that requires reconfiguring.
  9.  
  10.  You must delete (or otherwise remove) your current RACE.CFG file and
  11.  run RACECFG.EXE.  When RACECFG cannot find RACE.CFG and ask you if you
  12.  wish to create a new one say "Y" and step through all items and
  13.  configure to your preference.

  18. List of all changes and fixes in no particular order.  Specific
  19. information, where necessary, follows this list.
  20.  
  21. * If the default 'colors' were not modified and RACE was used on
  22.   a monochrome monitor, one could not 'hide' user passwords.
  23.  
  24. * Changed number of templates for validation and added templates
  25.   for reports.  Explained in detail after this list.
  26.  
  27. * Added =minor= mouse support.  All pick list type screens allow
  28.   using the mouse as does the user edit mode.
  29.  
  30. * Improved message base file locking routines to provide more time
  31.   to retry for access.  A graphic sliding bar decreases in lenght
  32.   as retries occur.

  34. * Changed the global change "Apply to" field.  Instead of having
  35.   to manually type "A", ">", "<" or "=", you now toggle through
  36.   "ALL USERS", "EQUAL TO", "LESS THAN" and "GREATER THAN" by using
  37.   the <spacebar>, <+>, <-> or left mouse button.

  40.   edit them completely.  In other words, RACE no longer forces
  41.   the uneditable hyphen character.

  43. * Updated RACE to include the Users index file.  This file is 
  44.   updated when ever you make a change to a user record, add a new user
  45.   or restore a user with Whoops.  It's completely rewritten after a
  46.   pack or sort.

  48. * User Date Format has been added.  Like Usered, <Space> or the plus
  49.   and minus keys will toggle you through the available options for
  50.   that field.

  52. * ALT-W in validate mode will write the displayed answers to the
  53.   temporary msg file that RACEEDIT uses.  RACEEDIT is then executed
  54.   and the answers are imported in quoted form.  ALT-W, like ALT-E, is
  55.   only available to registered RACE users.

  57.   ALT-S may be used to save a RACEEDIT message.  Upon exiting the
  58.   editor and returning to RACE, you will be given the opportunity
  59.   to edit the message subject field.

  61.   CTRL-Z has also been added as yet another way to save the message
  62.   in RACEEDIT.

  64. * changed <J>ump to dos and <U>tils so that either will return to
  65.   the user RECORD currently on-screen if possible. If the record no
  66.   longer exists, RACE will return to record 0.  If you have packed or
  67.   sorted the user file, the record RACE returns to may not be the same

  70. * had some difficulties with RACECFG's color configuration bombing out
  71.   if you attempted to use it in other than 25 line mode.  For now it
  72.   switches you into 25 line mode when going into color config and puts
  73.   you back upon return.

  76.   This tells you what the user is doing on the system.  ALT-U is a
  77.   registered user only feature.

  79. * Added global security level changes and global netmail credit changes.

  81. * Fixed a long standing oversite in color configuration for "Reports".
  82.   This color was used for most of the lists in which you were able move
  83.   a highlight bar around to pick a name or some such thing.  The
  84.   highlight bar was hardcoded as white with black text.  As you can
  85.   imagine, if you configured your "reports" to the same color, the bar
  86.   was not visible at all.

  88. * Added a "USERED" type initial display.  This is activated by a command
  89.   line switch of /U (or -u, /u, -U).  Presently this works very
  90.   similiar to Usered.  Highlight a name, hit <enter> and you go to that
  91.   user record in the familiar RACE screen.  Once there, all functions
  92.   work as usual.

  94.   <Q> or <ESC> to quit out of the RACE view screen will take you back to
  95.   the list type display.  <ESC> in the list display will exit RACE with
  96.   no prompting.

  98.   This item may also be configured as the default in RACECFG but it
  99.   will only take effect in the Registered version.

  102.  1) VALIDATION GENERAL INFO
  103.  
  104.     The most significant change to validate is in the number of
  105.     templates.  This has increased from 5 to 50.  Naturally this
  106.     necessitated removing the list of templates from the main
  107.     validation screen.
  108.  
  109.     Once you have become accustomed to your personal template setup,
  110.     merely type the number while not in another function in validate
  111.     and a window will pop up to accept your input.
  112.  
  113.     If you can't remember which template is which, pressing <L> will
  114.     pop up a pick list.  You may scroll through this list to find the
  115.     appropriate template.  "==== Label not defined ====" will appear
  116.     in any slot that has a blank description.
  117.  
  118.     Also, while the template pick list is active, you may type a
  119.     template number and the highlight bar will move to that number.
  120.  
  121.     It is important to understand that RACE considers a template valid
  122.     if there is a description for it and invalid if the description
  123.     field is blank.  RACE will not allow you to apply a template that,
  124.     in its opinion, is undefined.  The description field is the ONLY
  125.     test RACE uses to determine a template's validity.
  126.  
  127.     Validation templates still have welcome message capability.  It
  128.     will be up to you to create 50 messages if you want a specific
  129.     message for each template.  RACE will use the .001 template
  130.     message if it can't find one that fits the current template
  131.     number.
  132.  
  133.     For example, you could have a WELCOME.001 and a WELCOME.038.  In
  134.     that case, all users except level 38 would get WELCOME.001.  Level
  135.     38 would get WELCOME.038.
  136.  
  137.     The configuration of the subscription time allowance in months
  138.     has not changed though the application of the time has had a
  139.     slight modification.
  140.  
  141.     If the user is new and has no current subscription date or if the
  142.     use has a subscription date but it has expired, applying a template
  143.     to the user will work as in previous versions.  That is, the user
  144.     will be given the number of months from the template based on the
  145.     current system date.
  146.  
  147.     If the user has a subscription date that is in the future, i.e. not
  148.     yet expired, RACE will ask if you wish to <A>dd the months to the
  149.     user's subscription date or <R>estart.  Restart means to ignore
  150.     the date currently in the user's subscription field and start him
  151.     over from the current system date.

  154.  2) VALIDATION TEMPLATE CONFIGURATION
  155.  
  156.     There have been a number of changes to the templates other than
  157.     the increase from 5 to 50.
  158.  
  159.     The description field has been expanded slightly to allow for
  160.     more descriptive labels.  Be sure to leave this field blank if
  161.     you do not wish a template to be considered valid.
  162.  
  163.     "APPLY SEC" has been added to allow you disable the security level
  164.     change when applying a particular template.  Previously, there was
  165.     no way to use templates to change a user's status without applying
  166.     a security level during the change.  Enter a "N" in this field if
  167.     you don't want the security level to apply for this template.  It
  168.     does not matter what number is in the security level field if you've
  169.     set the "APPLY SEC" option to "N".
  170.  
  171.     The NO-KILL and XFER PRIORITY fields will now turn ON =OR= turn
  172.     OFF either of these flags.  Place a "N" in either one to turn OFF
  173.     that attribute when updating a user.  Place a "Y" there to turn ON
  174.     that attribute.

  176.  3) OTHER NEW VALIDATE FEATURES
  177.  
  178.     ALT-W has been provided to allow REGISTERED RACE users to load the
  179.     RACEEDIT editor, quoting the current user's answers in the process.
  180.     Merely press ALT-W instead of ALT-E if you'd like to write the user
  181.     a message and quote his/her questionnaire answers.
  182.  
  183.     Two additional keystroke combinations have been added as a means of
  184.     saving the RACEEDIT message.  Pressing ALT-S within RACEEDIT will
  185.     save the message and allow you to edit the subject of the message.
  186.     You will be asked for the new subject AFTER returning to RACE.
  187.  
  188.     Ctrl-Z has been added as a means to save the message for those that
  189.     are used to using that combination in QuickED or FrontDoor.

  192.  4) REPORT CONFIGURATION

  195.     TEMPLATES
  196.     ---------

  198.     Templates have been added so that it is not necessary to constantly
  199.     reselect the same fields over and over to get your favorite report.
  200.     You may define up to 20 report templates.
  201.  
  202.        ** NOTICE **
  203.  
  204.       Report templates are enabled in RACE for REGISTERED users only.
  205.       While you ARE permitted to configure templates in RACECFG and
  206.       the info will be saved, RACE will =NOT= offer the <T>emplate
  207.       option in the <R>eport menu if you are not a registered RACE user.
  208.  
  209.     Report templates allow defining the device to which the report will
  210.     be sent (printer, screen, disk) and the fields to include in the
  211.     report.  There is also a 60 character field for a description that
  212.     will appear in a 'pick' list in RACE when <T>emplate is selected.
  213.  
  214.     Set up of a report template is a simple process.  Select "Reports"
  215.     on the RACECFG main menu.  A pull down menu will offer Template as
  216.     the first option in this menu.  Hit <ENTER> while in the Template
  217.     option field and yet another window will appear.
  218.  
  219.     There are three items in the template configuration window.
  220.  
  221.      Desc:    Enter a descriptive comment for this template.
  222.      Device:  Use the <Spacebar> to toggle through the choices.
  223.      Fields:  Hit <ENTER> in this field and a field selection
  224.               window will open up allowing you to select the
  225.               fields to include for this template.
  226.  
  227.     While anywhere within the individual template configuration window
  228.     you may hit <PgUp> and <PgDn> to access templates 1 through 20.
  229.  
  230.     When you are finished configuring the report templates, hit
  231.     <CTRL-ENTER> to save your changes to disk.  Report templates are
  232.     stored in a separate file called RACERPT.TPL.
  233.  
  234.     To use the template feature, select <R>eports within RACE.  Select
  235.     <T>emplates in the small report menu that appears near the top of
  236.     the screen.  A pick list window will appear in which you may scroll
  237.     around and select the template you wish to use.
  238.  
  239.     Once a template has been selected, RACE goes to the search menu and
  240.     from then on works as if you had not used a template.  See chapter 7
  241.     in RACE.DOC for more information on using reports in RACE.

  244.     PRINTER CONFIGURATION FOR REPORTS
  245.     ---------------------------------
  246.  
  247.     As with report templates, select REPORTS in the main RACECFG menu to
  248.     access report printer configuration.
  249.  
  250.     Select "1" for LPT1 or "2" for LPT2.  You may also disable (or
  251.     enable) a form feed at the end of each printed page.  The length of
  252.     the printed page is also definable within a range of 1 to 255 lines.
  253.     This defines the number of lines that will be printed before a form
  254.     feed, if enabled, is sent.
  255.  
  256.     A printer initialization and de-initialization is also provided.
  257.     Reports now allow you to select up to 240 characters worth of
  258.     fields for each report line.  If the report is going to the screen,
  259.     it will be up to you to limit the line length to a value that is
  260.     appropriate for your screen width.
  261.  
  262.     In order to print such wide reports you will most likely want to
  263.     place your printer into a compressed mode first.  RACE will send
  264.     whatever is in the "init" string prior to printing a report and
  265.     then will send the "Down" string upon completion of the printout.
  266.  
  267.     In order to enter control characters (such as the ESC that preceeds
  268.     most printer codes) you will first need to press CTRL-P while in the
  269.     init or down string edit field.  Upon pressing CTRL-P you will
  270.     notice that the cursor has changed to a large, rapidly blinkly
  271.     block.  Whatever you enter next is entered literally.
  272.  
  273.     To enter an ESC character you would first  press CTRL-P and then
  274.     press your ESC key.  Any control characters will display as high
  275.     intensity yellow (or just high intensity on mono systems) whereas
  276.     non-ctrl characters will be low intensity cyan.
  277.  
  278.     If you've pressed CTRL-P and then the ESC key, what you should see
  279.     in the input field is a high intensity "[" character.  RACECFG
  280.     automatically returns to non-literal mode after each entry. So, if
  281.     you need two or more control characters you will have to press
  282.     CTRL-P before entering each one of them.
